Staycation 2010

We don't get out much these days: it's too damn hot.

Pardon my French.

So what's a family to do when it's just soooo hot, our favorite beaches are slathered in oil (the bad kind), Daddy is gone four days a week, and Mama is seven months pregnant?

You decide to grin and bear it for two days and launch Staycation 2010, that's what.

We did the same thing last August when we were unable to make it up to Ohio for B's cousin's wedding. We found ourselves dying from the heat, but wanting to do some things as a family and make a few memories. So we took Chloe up to Atlanta for a few days a took a thousand pictures, lol. We had so much fun, in fact, that we decided to do it again this year.

So we revisited Imagine It! (Atlanta's children's museum), but we also took Chloe to the GA Aquarium. I knew she would enjoy it, but she really surprised both of us by just how interested she was in everything, and her excitement and wonder at all the fish. She calls any fish a "blub blub" (for the sound a fish's bubbles make), so throughout the morning, she ran from tank to tank yelling "blub! blub!" and smiling and dancing. She was just so excited.

It almost made me want to get her a fish for her birthday.
Somebody slap me back to reality, please.

So after the aquarium, we took her over to the museum, which is completely interactive. When we went last year, Chloe had just started crawling and was slightly bald. To look at the pictures from then to now, it just blows my mind how much she has changed and grown in just under a year. We are so proud of the little person she is becoming!

We also took Chloe down to Callaway Gardens. Not a place we'd been before, but definitely a place we will be going back to. There is so much to see and do, but our favorite part was by far Robin Lake Beach. It's the world's largest man-made lake. It's got a sand bottom and shore, and is super clean (I normally don't do lakes for all the murkiness and snakes. ewwwww!). The water was so warm and Chloe just had a blast splashing around and playing on the shore. A great day, most certainly.

In between all of our activities, Chloe enjoyed eating whatever she wanted (gasp! I know, can you believe I gave in?), not napping (another gasp!), and basically just being spoiled rotten.

We loved every minute of it. :)

Hope you all are finding ways to beat the heat--enjoy the pics!
Love, BCCC

PS: ultrasound update on Tuesday, 7/27--I'll let you know what the doc says!

ready to begin the day at the GA Aquarium
She's holding her new keychain they gave her

for the pictures below, all I can say is what a difference a year makes!

PS: poor thing, she was so tired by the end of the day, she just couldn't find a smile for us, but she really did have a good time!
